Well, I guess its reality check for another failing Bluegrass State Program. I interviewed in Louisville sometime ago with another 7 med students. The place is not a dump, but seems to run on a bare minimum philosophy when it comes to resident training. Everyone in my interviewee group was pretty competitive, yet this program had nothing spectacular to offer. They run their entire Level One trauma operation with 24 or 25 attendings; most of them non-academic and without any relevant publications in quite some time. This program had no realistic or serious research opportunities what so ever. No pediatrics division. I asked about cardiac and the response was “Developing a strong cardiac imaging division”. The residents told me they do one or two coronary CTAs a week and one MR a month. How is that strong? The residents were a little too happy, enthusiastic, and friendly, almost as if they were faking it. I was surprised by the general attitude of the interviewers. They acted as if they were doing me a favor. I guess the Match day results revealed the interview process is a two way street and this place is not ideal for any competitive candidate who is serious about a successful career in radiology. The place is not a dump, but it only offers the minimum training necessary to obtain certification. In my opinion quite mediocre and below average. I am not trying to be a hater, but this is NOT a training program for anyone looking to become a top notch radiologist. I did not even rank them. I’m glad I matched and I’m glad it wasn’t there. They’ll be filling those 3 open spots with all those shady candidates that did not match, and that’s gonna be a really special class.
